“Bios Coop” Social Consumer Cooperative
Bios Coop is a social cooperative of local consumers and producers based in Thessaloniki, Central Macedonia, Greece. The cooperative operates a retail shop near the city centre of Thessaloniki, which sells local produce from farmers, who follow the principles of ecological agriculture, at affordable prices to local consumers and cooperative members.
BIOALVERDE Good Practice: Andalusia Beacon Region
Bioalverde (bioalverde.com) is a non-profit and insertion company promoted by Cáritas Diocesana de Sevilla. They pursue the insertion of people in a situation or at risk of social exclusion; raise awareness and increase fair and sustainable consumption by the exploitation (among other business areas) of an ecological farm of 30 hectares, cooperation with other ecological farmers and distribution of the product with a proximate SFSC approach.
Bienvenue à la ferme
The “Bienvenue à la ferme” (Welcome to the Farm) approach is based on a French brand of hospitality and direct sales, supported by the network of Chambers of Agriculture. This network promotes local products and fair remuneration of producers. A variety of products are concerned: fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, cheese, jam, alcohol, wine, juice, and other non-food products such as wool and ornamental plants.
Benedicto Turgus (Benedict’s Market)
Benedicto Turgus (Benedict’s Market) is a gourmet marketplace that gathers representatives from Lithuanian farms and traders of the world’s gourmet products under one roof. The market is composed of stores and world kitchens. It links food products and restaurants with consumers, offering a convenient place to buy straight from the farm at a convenient time.
The Agricultural Marketing Platform
The Agricultural Marketing platform and its web-portal www.tarimsalpazarlama.com, which was established in 2004, offers farmers the privilege of internet, enabling them to access information about protecting their products. It is Turkey’s first and one of the main communication, e-learning and e-commerce media that meets a farmer’s every possible need. This platform provide farmers up-to-date information, know-how, skills and professional development, while also creating opportunities for them to reach alternative markets by bypassing traditional intermediary structures.
Built around the 38-acre estate encompassing farm- and wood-land, a farm shop, a farmers’ market, an award winning restaurant, gardens, the original family home and associated buildings, this not-for-profit organisation provides a range of services and activities to raise awareness and provide education to many target groups.
